Born of Maronite parents in Mount Lebanon, orphaned, taken to Germany at the age of 10, returned to the Ottoman Empire, created map of İzmir in 1876, studied medicine in Würzburg 1878-1880, afterwards worked as a physician in the Administration Sanitaire de L'Empire Ottoman, after his retirement lived in Berlin where he died on 9 July 1931.
